Michael was an Archangel that appeared in various religious teachings. His name means ‘who is like God?’ in Hebrew, which is interpreted as a rhetorical question. Michael’s depiction in the book of Daniel resulted in Michael being interpreted as a protector of Israel, the Christian Church, and as advocate of the Jewish people, despite rabbinical prohibition of appealing to Angels as intermediaries between God and his loyal people.
